Transport for Wales’ planned increase to train services has been branded “pitiful and meagre” by the Welsh Conservatives.
The Welsh Government owned body has announced its services will increase by just 8.5% from September 13.
Welsh Conservative Shadow Minister for Transport, Natasha Asghar MS, said:
“This is a rather pitiful and meagre increase in service provision from Transport for Wales.
“Trains should’ve been running at a much higher capacity from the moment restrictions were eased in Wales to encourage commuters and families on trips over the school holidays out of cars and onto public transport.
“It completely goes against this Labour administration’s rhetoric of trying to tackle climate change, with ministers missing a trick by not increasing more rail services, and sooner.
“There is still a lot of work to be done to improve Wales’ shoddy public transport network and Labour ministers need to work with Transport for Wales to ensure enough carriages are available to avoid overcrowding, and make sure trains actually turn up on time.”
