After long campaigning for a bigger A&E department at The Grange, Natasha Asghar MS visited the new unit this week.
Having been contacted my many constituents with health horror stories, and after experiencing problems at the A&E department first-hand, the politician has pushed for improvements over the last few years.
Complaints about the old A&E waiting room include being too small with not enough space to cope with the high demand.
Natasha visited the Grange this week and met with Aneurin Bevan University Health Board’s Chief Executive to discuss the health board’s progress and the new A&E department.
They also visited the hospital’s new Transfer Lounge, a dedicated space designed to improve patient flow, reduce ambulance handover delays, and provide a calmer environment for patients ready to leave acute care
Natasha Asghar MS, who represents South Wales East in the Senedd, said:
“After pushing for improvements on behalf of my constituents, I am delighted to see that action has been taken, and the A&E department has been expanded and improved.
“Although the extension to the emergency department has been implemented, the improvements cannot stop there. This alone will not be enough to fix the problems within our health service.
“We need to see more action to drive down shamefully high NHS waiting lists, ensuring my constituents are not languishing in pain and are receiving high quality, and timely, access to treatment.
“Health remains the top issue residents get in touch with me about and I will never shy away from standing up for them and demanding better.”
