A group of stroke survivors shared their stories and struggles with their Member of the Welsh Parliament Natasha Asghar MS this week.

Natasha, who represents South Wales East politician, vowed to do all she can to campaign for improvements to help those who have suffered a stroke following the visit to Blackwood Stroke Support Group.

The 50-strong group gets together every Thursday in Tir-y-Berth Village Hall to socialise, offer support to each other and take part in various activities.

During Natasha’s visit to the group, many members shared the problems they face in their daily lives from inaccessible public transport, issues with health care, lack of public toilets and digital exclusion.

Natasha shared her own experience of caring for her mother, who has had a stroke, and recalled some of the challenges she often faces.

Commenting after the visit, Natasha Asghar MS said:

“It was an absolute privilege to spend a morning with Blackwood Stroke Support Group, which is made up of some truly amazing and inspirational individuals.

“Having spoken at great length with the group it is clear that changes – many of them simple – must be made in lots of different areas to make stroke survivors’ lives easier.

“I will be taking their comments and feedback to the Welsh Parliament where I will be pushing the relevant Ministers to act.”
