Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch MP was welcomed to Newport today (Jan 30) by the area’s MS Natasha Asghar for a special visit.
The two politicians headed to Care for the Family at Cleppa Park to find out more about the work the charity does in supporting families.
They were also joined by Welsh Conservative leader Darren Millar MS, Shadow Secretary for State for Wales Mims Davies MP and Conservative leader on Newport City Council Cllr Matthew Evans.
Care for the Family, which was founded in 1998, provides vital support for family life with particular focus on marriage, parenting, and bereavement.
The charity’s founder Rob Parsons and Chief Executive Robin Vincent talked to the group about its work before taking the politicians on a tour of the Newport HQ.
With more than 80 staff across the UK, Care for the Family offers a range of support including marriage and parenting courses, bereavement support, family breaks and faith in the family, as well as a wide range of resources in support of each of those areas.
The group also talked at length about the impact of social media on families, and the Conservative Party’s pledge to ban social media for those under the age of 16.
Natasha Asghar MS, who represents South Wales East in the Welsh Parliament, said:
“It was a real pleasure to welcome the Leader of the Opposition, Kemi Badenoch MP, to Newport to meet with staff at Care for the Family.
“The charity does some truly fantastic work supporting families not just here in Wales, but across the UK, and it was great to get a real insight into its initiatives.
“Family is at the core of the Conservative Party and as we head towards May’s Senedd election we will be building on our pro-family policies, and I certainly have a lot of food for thought after meeting with Care for the Family.”
