A recently transformed community and sports club has been hailed an “incredibly valuable asset” by Natasha Asghar MS.

The South Wales East politician recently headed to the Ponthir Sports and Community Club to see first-hand some of the major work which has been carried out following years of tireless campaigning.

A new community hub has been built alongside brand-new changing rooms, sports pitches and upgrades have been carried out to existing facilities.

The transformational works – which takes the total invested into the site to in excess of £1m – will not only benefit the ever-growing number of sports teams, but also the wider community with a range of events and opportunities taking place at the club.

Natasha also played a vital part in helping deliver the community project by successfully lobbying the Welsh Government and local authorities to solve a complex funding issue surrounding the site’s car park.

Speaking after the visit, Natasha Asghar MS said:

“It was an absolute pleasure to meet with the team at Ponthir Sports and Community Club to see first-hand the amazing work which has been carried out and hear about how these improvements are benefitting the local community.

“This is a perfect example of different organisations and stakeholders coming together to deliver an incredibly valuable asset which will go a long way in boosting grassroots sport and delivering big community benefits.

“It hasn’t been an easy task so I must take my hat off to the club’s brilliant team and all those who made this possible.”
