MS visits new Radiotherapy Unit at Nevill Hall Hospital

South Wales East MS Natasha Asghar visited the preview event of the new £38 million purpose-built wing at Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

Natasha met with Carl James, Executive Director of Strategic Transformation, Planning and Digital, Velindre University NHS Trust along with Hannah Evans, Executive Director of Strategy, Planning and Partnerships, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for a tour around the Radiotherapy Unit.

The Velindre @ Nevill Hall Radiotherapy Unit, based at Nevill Hall Hospital, is set to enhance patient experience and bring additional radiotherapy capacity to south-east Wales cancer treatment services.

Scheduled to open soon, this state-of-the-art facility will eventually increase radiotherapy capacity in the region by up to 20%. The unit will initially treat breast cancer, prostate cancer and palliative radiotherapy patients who meet a set of clinical criteria.

“Having heard so much of the new unit it was a pleasure to see the Radiotherapy Unit in Partnership with The Velindre, at Nevill Hall. It is a monumental step forward in providing better cancer care in the South East.”

“It is encouraging to see such advanced treatment options available to our community, by ensuring that patients receive the best possible care close to home, as well as hearing the plans for the future-which hope to ultimately address other cancers too.”

“I am thrilled to see health boards working closely together on a clear a mission to reduce waiting times for cancer treatment with the desire to improve patient outcomes.”
