Newport baking entrepreneur, Tegan Godden, amid cakes, picnic boxes and baguettes, warmly welcomed Natasha Asghar MS to her shop, Bonkers Bakes in Brynglas Road.
Tegan, aged 20, told the Regional Member for South East Wales, that only a couple years ago whilst still at college, she researched, planned and submitted a business case to a scheme organised by Barnardo’s to encourage young people into business. Tegan won and was awarded £10,000 which she used to open her premises in December and hasn’t looked back since.
“I love baking and love having my shop. It’s hard, but really rewarding work and I know this is just the start of my business career. It’s great to be part of the community and I love seeing customers return,” said Tegan.
Natasha added: “It was a such treat, in so many ways, to visit Tegan and hear her inspirational story and see her serving a steady stream of customers whilst I was there.
“As a young, inspirational woman who was born and raised in Newport Tegan has boundless enthusiasm, talent and community spirit. It was a complete joy to meet her. She is unquestionably a courageous, ambitious female entrepreneur and after hearing her story and her journey I plan to connect her with various groups and organisations who will hopefully support her with her future ambitions.
“I must say the picnic boxes, assortment of delicious of cakes are all homemade. They not only looked incredible but tasted delicious. I’ll definitely be popping back for more!”, said Natasha.
