The Welsh Government’s upcoming Bus Bill was the hot topic of conversation when Natasha Asghar MS met with the Newport Transport team recently.

With the Bill due to be introduced to the Senedd imminently, the meeting gave Natasha the chance to discuss some of its potential challenges and opportunities.

The group also discussed the Welsh Government’s proposed bus cap fare for 16 – 21-year-olds and planned changes to Newport’s Old Green Roundabout.

Natasha Asghar MS said:

“It was a pleasure to catch up with the great team at Newport Transport and discuss some of the local issues, but also the big national ones too like the Bus Bill.

“The Welsh Government’s Bus Bill is something which has caused me concern for quite some time, especially in my previous role as Shadow Transport Minister.

“It is being billed as the silver bullet to solving the industry’s problems, but I am just not convinced this will be the case.

“Newport Bus is a real jewel in our city’s crown, and I will do all I can to make sure the company continues to grow and flourish.”

David Jenkins, Managing Director of Newport Transport Ltd, added:

“We have invited and met with MSs from across our operating area and were delighted that Natasha was able to take the time to meet with us and for Newport Bus to provide updates around the challenges facing our local network alongside regional and national subjects relating to the bus industry.”
