It was eyes down for Natasha Asghar MS recently as she joined the residents at a Treharris residential home for their weekly bingo session.
The South East Wales politician was visiting Ty Bargoed Newydd to meet with the CEO of Age Connects Morgannwg when she gate-crashed the residents’ Monday morning game.
Thankfully, the residents welcomed Natasha with open arms, sharing their experiences of Ty Bargoed Newydd with her before playing a game of bingo herself with them.
Natasha visited the residential home to find out about some of the work Age Connects Morgannwg does at Ty Bargoed Newydd and across Merthyr Tydfil.
Age Connects is a charity for older people offering information, advice, and services to help them stay living independently for as long as possible.
Their dedicated team of staff and volunteers offer support on a variety of issues such as care, legal, health, housing, benefits, learning, leisure, and work.
At Ty Bargoed Newydd, Age Connects has an activity coordinator who puts on a range of events for residents every day including quizzes, bingo, arts and crafts and manicures.

“It was an absolute privilege to meet some of the residents at Ty Bargoed Newydd and talk with them about what the home, and Age Connects, means to them.
“The volunteers and staff at Age Connects go above and beyond in supporting older people across the region, not just at this one particular residential home – although it’s clear just how much those at Ty Bargoed Newydd cherish their daily activities.
“I am pleased that I got the chance to talk with Rachel Rowlands, the CEO of Age Connects, about the charity’s work and some of the issues they are facing, and I will do all I can to help them in continuing to provide vital services.
“A huge thank you must go to all of the hardworking staff at the residential home as well for all that they do, and I can only apologies to the residents for gate-crashing their bingo.”
