Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch MP and Shadow Secretary of State for Wales Mims Davies MP were welcomed to Newport by the city’s Welsh Conservative MS as the pair visited a galvanizing business.

The three politicians met with Edward Saville, the General Manager of Newport Galvanizers Ltd, to discuss the company’s work and challenges facing the business including with recruitment and tariffs.

Edward gave the Conservative team a tour of his facility in Llanwern before holding a roundtable meeting with other business leaders.

Joining Natasha, Kemi, Mims and Edward for the roundtable were Chris Reeks from Newport’s Fentrade Ltd, Laura Jones from Acrow Global Limited, Ian Hoppe from Braithwaite in Newport, and Usk businessman Tony Kear.

The trio of politicians heard from the group about their issues and concerns before setting out the Conservative’s business-focused policies.

They include lowering energy costs, cutting tax, reducing red tape, and providing a more flexible labour market. Natasha also emphasised the need for more apprenticeships in manufacturing.

Newport and Islwyn MS Natasha Asghar said:

“It is always an absolute pleasure to welcome Kemi to Newport, and this was certainly no exception.”

“The Conservatives are unwavering in our commitment to businesses, and it was great to be able to set out our stall to some of the area’s businesses during this visit and hear about the things that matter to them.

“While Kemi set out her pro-business agenda from a Westminster point of view, there is more we could, and should, be doing in Wales to boost our economy.

“We need to see business rates eliminated, an M4 relief road delivered, taxes slashed, and a bigger on apprenticeships. That’s what I will be pushing the new Plaid Government to do.”
