Natasha Asghar, Senedd Member for South East Wales, has pledged her support for the steel industry on a visit to Tata Steel UK’s Llanwern Works.

Natasha met with representatives of Tata Steel to discuss the many issues facing steel production in the UK including energy prices, decarbonisation, using more home produced steel in infrastructure projects and creating a level trading field internationally.

During the discussion, Natasha pledged her full support for the continuation of steel production in the UK.

The visit concluded with a tour of the works.

Commenting afterwards, the Welsh Conservative Senedd Member for South Wales East said:

“It was a pleasure to visit Tata Steel’s Llanwern operation to discuss the challenges facing the industry and to pledge my full support for the continuation of steel production in the UK.”

“Steel is one of the most widely used materials in the world and is essential to our construction and manufacturing industries. Recent events abroad have demonstrated the fragility of global supply chains and the importance of strengthening  them at home.”

“It is vital we do all we can to support domestic steel production and address the challenges the industry faces as our economy would be much poorer without it.”

“I would like to thank everyone at Tata Steel for allowing me to visit and for a fascinating and highly informative meeting and tour of the works.”
